Here at Content Amp, we love a good update, so imagine our excitement when Google announced not one but TWO new updates in their blog.
From the beginning of the week (September 9) Google’s Authorship programme and Google+ Sign In joined forces.
This means that WordPress users will be automatically integrated with Google+ when signed into both accounts, so articles published will be linked to the Google+ profile in question instantaneously.
So when your content appears in Search, News or any other Google products, you will see your profile picture and a link to your Google+ account.
Commenting on the new platform feature, Seth Sternberg, the Director of Product Management at Google+ said:
“When you create and share content online, you want people to know you’re the author— no matter how far that content may travel. Not only do you get the credit, you can also grow your audience over time.”
Drum roll please…
The second new feature is just as exciting. Mr Sternberg explained that as millions of people are posting high quality content on Google+, embedded posts have been introduced to encourage the expansion of your digital audience.
This means that any public Google+ posts, including text, photos and media, can be embedded into any third party website.
Embedding a post couldn’t be easier, as all site owners have to do is find an appropriate public post on Google+ and select ‘Embed post’ from the drop-down menu. Copying the code and adding it to the site completes this very simple process.
What’s more, the system is optimised so embedded posts run exactly the same way as they do on the Google+ page, so users can +1 and comment on content as well as add you to their circles.
