Brits spend two days of a week-long holiday glued to their gadgets

Are you one of those people who leaves all their gadgets at home when you go on holiday to really get away from it all? Or are you a gadget junkie who cannot bear the thought of leaving your phone at home for a few hours, let alone an entire week?

It seems the majority of Brits fall into the latter camp, with a survey from Lastminute.com finding that 90% of us spend a whopping four hours a day glued to our tech devices on holiday – which adds up to two whole days over a week long stint abroad!

Four hours might seem a bit much, but remember this includes gadgets with music libraries to help us relax while catching some well-earned rays or reading a book by the pool.

According to the poll, 27% of us wouldn’t give a hotel without Wi-Fi a second thought, with 40% of people willingly lowering their expectations and opting for hotels with two or three stars over their five star counterparts, simply for the Wi-Fi facilities.

But why all the fuss? Almost half (48%) of holidaymakers said their gadgets staved off boredom and 31% like to post holiday snaps in action to invoke the green-eyed monster in our pasty pals back home (charming!).

What’s this got to do with content marketing?

Travellers also like to keep up to date with the fast moving world of social media on their jollies, with a new infographic from GlobalWebIndex claiming that three out of four UK Twitter users log into their accounts on holiday.

Commenting on the results, a Twitter spokesperson told thedrum.com: “While many of us like to relax on holiday, we increasingly like to keep in touch with what is going on in the world around us, to catch breaking news and check in with our friends back home as well.”

This is good news for brands that use Twitter to promote content and engage with their readers. With people constantly connected, it’s important to create fresh and engaging content regularly as the odds are, someone will be looking out for it – wherever in the world they might be!

While the prospect of creating great content on a regular basis might seem daunting or even impossible, fear not – an editorial calendar can set you straight. Alternatively, you could outsource your content to a high quality content marketing agency with top notch in-house writers!
